5/10/04: The Merritthon Site has been launched. Its still a little under construction, but most of the stuff is up. I will put up the flyer this weekend. Here you'll find all the information you will need for the show, and profiles for each band.
Love,

Ben.

New in 2004

The 2004 Merritthon is dedicated to Brianna Rose Cohen (2000-2003). Brianna was the half-sister of my good friend Ryan Collins. She was a smart, sweet, and loving little girl who left us much too early. In 2003, she was diagnosed with a Brain tumor, and had it successfully removed at John's Hopkins. Unfortunately, she passed away in December from unaturally high levels of potassium due to a Hospital mistake. The money made from this years Merritthon will be donated to the Leukemia Soceity of America in her name.

Merritthon History

In July of 2001, Merritt Navazio, alto sax player for the now defunct Nothing Squad was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia after having complained of cold symptoms and body aches for over a month. After being diganosed, Merritt was immidiately sent to the University of Baltimore Medical Center where he recieved Chemotherapy. The treatment proved to be unsuccessful, and he returned a few months later for another session of Chemo. Knowing that the second treatment would also not be effective in riding his body of the disease, he was put on the national bone marrow list. A donor was found, and as soon as he left the hospital in early spring, he was immidiately flown to Seattle Washington. As of March 2004, Merritt has been Leukemia free for two years. The Nothing Squad decided to put on the Leukemia Benefit Concert to raise awareness of the disease, and raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. While the band broke up shortly before the first Show, the benefit has successfully raised over $4000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America. This year, Merritt's friend, bandmate, and former Nothing Squad member Ben Kellogg is organizing the 2004 Merritthon. The name of the Benefit, (if not obvious enough) is a play on words, combining Merritt's name and the word "marathon." (duh)
